No Opening Ceremony on Indian Premiere League IPL 2020

IPL Begins Today

The opening match will be played between Chennai Super Kings CSK and Mumbai Indians MI at Shaikh Zayed Stadium at 7:30 PM (2:00 PM GMT) .

The corona-virus pandemic, matches being held in the back of closed doorways and the precedent set in 2019, that means there would be no opening ceremony on September 19 earlier than the first ball is bowled. The thirteenth edition of the IPL is set to commence on September 19 with the CSK taking on defending champions MI at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. This year the event will be held behind closed doorways at three venues which include Dubai and Sharjah.  The opening match will be played between CSK and MI at Sheikh Zayed Stadium at IST 7:30 PM (2:00 PM GMT). It will additionally be the first time that cheerleaders would no longer be there at the venues throughout an IPL match. Yet, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has assured that IPL thirteen will be a massive revenue earner for broadcasters as all the followers would tune in to their Television to watch the Live matches. Unlike most of the preceding seasons, IPL 2020 will start sans an opening ceremony. In 2019, the IPL Governing Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI had determined to now not hold the ceremony in wake of the Pulwama terror attack. Instead, the organizers have been decided to donate the fund to families of the Central Reserve Police Force CRPF personnel, who lost their lives in the terror attack. The IPL Committee of Administrators said that, “We will no longer have any inaugural function for the IPL and the cash budgeted for that goes to the martyrs’ families.” The fact that the tournament is taking place in the UAE start closed doors and barring         fans amid the novel corona-virus pandemic, is another cause why there will not be an opening ceremony. This edition of the IPL will additionally not feature cheerleaders for the similar reasons. However, organizers are assured that followers would be able to watch the matches from the stadiums at a later stage of the Twenty20 match that concludes on November 10. The season was first supposed to be performed in March-May 2020, however, it was once postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All eight IPL teams and the organizers are in a ‘bio-bubble’ to reduce the threat of infection. There will be 10 double headers, with the first match beginning at 3.30 pm IST and the 2nd  at IST 7.30 pm. In this IPL tournament,  24 matches will be held in Dubai, 20 in Abu Dhabi and 12 in Sharjah. The playoffs and the final match venues will be announced later.

Another difference compare to previous tournament that will be considered this year is the absence of cheerleaders inside the stadiums. The IPL has traditionally seen cheerleaders rooting for their respective franchises whilst additionally entertaining the crowd in the back of them in the stands. With this season set to be held behind closed doors, the factor to have cheerleaders understandably did not make sense. With the BCCI and IPL franchises making a great deal    of money this term than the preceding one, it is also understandable to reduce down on charges on a few areas. While fans in India would be glued to their TV sets as soon as IPL kicks-off, some cricket enthusiasts in UAE may get to go to the stadium in the later stages of the T20 league depending upon how the Corona-virus pandemic state is at that time in the region. The organizers are not taking any threat when it comes to the players' safety.
